COURSES - Basic Emergency Survival Weekend Course

This course is for the complete novice to Emergency Survival. We cover the difference between Emergency Survival, Combat Survival, Bushcraft & Primitive Living, all of which is commonly mistaken for one another, making learning the basics difficult. We then take you through a pre-trip plan, route cards, outdoor & survival equipment. Then it’s down to the 6 priorities of survival: Shelter, Fire, Water, Food, Location & First Aid. During this course you are given plenty of time to feed yourself and to be well rested, as we believe this way your mind is in a better state for learning. After all, you are here to learn survival techniques, not go through a survival ordeal. We stay well away from military-style boot camp training.

Course Outline The course starts on Saturday Morning 08:00hrs. We start with site selection and getting the shelters up. We will then go through a pre-trip plan and some common mistakes that people are not often taught while filling them out. Next is route cards and then onto some lectures about outdoor clothing, outdoor equipment, survival equipment - including kits and knives. We stop around 12:00hrs (noon) for lunch for 30 to 60 minutes, depending how we are getting on. Then it’s on to the 6 priorities of survival: Shelter, Fire, Water, Food, Location & First Aid for the rest of the day and Sunday. Sunday will start at 07:00hrs getting dressed and fed, then lessons start at 08:00hrs. Finishing time on Sunday depends largely on the size of the group. We always make sure that everything is covered and there’s time for a group photo and certificates. The certificates are nice enough to be framed and a course report is available if this course is work related.

Accommodation is in a shelter made from a tarp. You will learn the construction of shelters made from nature. An instructor will be there throughout the night to lend a hand if needed.

We provide the loan of a tarp and a Mora Clipper knife.
